AVALON, WILDWOOD PITCH OPEN SPACE PROJECTS TO COUNTY

Both Avalon and Wildwood made applications for funding to the Cape May County Open Space Program on Tuesday.  Avalon is seeking funding for a brand new Surfside Park adjacent to the boardwalk, and an expansion of its bike path; Wildwood is hoping for funding for artificial fields at its Maxwell Field sports complex. ##

STILL CLOSED: TOWNSEND’S INLET BRIDGE NOT OPEN FOR HOLIDAY

The Townsend’s Inlet Bridge will remain closed to vehicular traffic for Memorial Day weekend.  County Engineer Dale Foster reports that the contractor is working 12 hour shifts on weekdays but it’s not enough to get the bridge open for the weekend.  The bridge has been closed since April 3rd. ##

AVALON BUILDS NORTH END BEACH, SAVES $7 MILLION

Avalon’s north end beach project has concluded.  Nearly one million cubic yards of sand has been placed on north end beaches with over $7 million in non-local dollars used for the project.  The last piece of the beach fill will be in the south end hotel district. ##

BEST BOCCE TEAM IN CAPE MAY COUNTY TO BE DECIDED SATURDAY

The best bocce team in Cape May County will be decided in Avalon on Saturday.  The Borough is hosting the annual Mayor’s Bocce Cup Tournament that will feature teams led by their mayors from Middle Township, Wildwood Crest, Stone Harbor, and Avalon.  The winner takes home a Stanley Cup-type trophy to display for one year.
