STILL CLOSED: TOWNSEND’S INLET BRIDGE NOT OPEN FOR HOLIDAY

The Townsend’s Inlet Bridge will remain closed to vehicular traffic for Memorial Day weekend.  County Engineer Dale Foster reports that the contractor is working 12 hour shifts on weekdays but it’s not enough to get the bridge open for the weekend.  The bridge has been closed since April 3rd. ##

FOREST FIRE IN PINELANDS HAS BEEN CONTAINED

A weekend forest fire in the Pinelands has been contained.  The New Jersey Forest Fire Service says about 300 acres of woods in Wharton State Forest was reported on Saturday morning and it took about a day to contain the fire.  No word yet on what sparked the fire. ##

HIMEBAUGH, OTHERS GATHER FOR “MISSING IN NEW JERSEY” EVENT

The mother of missing Del Haven resident Mark Himebaugh and dozens of others gathered at Rutgers University over the weekend for the “Missing in New Jersey” event.  The event brought together families of missing New Jersey residents as authorities reaffirmed their commitment to do the best they can to locate missing residents. ##

SPORTS: CATHOLIC SOFTBALL COMPLETED UNDEFEATED SEASON

A huge milestone for the Wildwood Catholic softball program.  It finished its first undefeated season in conference play with an 11-4 victory over St. Joseph’s on Friday.  The Gazette Leader’s Brian Cunniff reports that the Lady Crusaders are 15-5 overall, and 12-0 in conference play. ##
