REPORT: PLEASANTVILLE TO ELIMINATE AD, NAMES GYM AFTER LEARY

The Pleasantville school district is eliminating the position of athletic director and nearly 70 other jobs to balance a budget.  The Press of Atlantic City reports that the school will also dedicate the high school gym in honor of former longtime boys basketball coach Ken Leary. ##

THREE AVALON INCUMBENTS RE-ELECTED TO BOROUGH COUNCIL

Avalon’s municipal election Tuesday night produced no surprises as incumbents Dr. Nancy Hudanich, James Deever, and John McCorristin were all re-elected to office.  The three incumbents defeated a challenger by a nearly three to one margin; each has earned four year terms on Borough Council starting July 1st. ##

SZCZUR APPEARS IN HIS FIRST GAME FOR SAN DIEGO PADRES

Matt Szczur appeared in his first game for the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.  Szczur grounded out in the seventh inning and played some left field for the Padres during an 11-0 loss to the Texas Rangers.  Szczur was traded by the Cubs to the Padres this week. ##

VINEALND POLICE SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT WHO ROBBED PHARMACY

Vineland Police are searching for a man who used a knife to commit a robbery at a CVS pharmacy during the early morning hours last Friday.  Police say the robber showed a knife, demanded money, and ran out of the East Chestnut Avenue store after the crime.  There were no injuries. ##
