BPU APPROVES MAJOR UPGRADE PROJECT FOR ATLANTIC CITY ELECTRIC

State regulators have approved a five year, $79 million improvement project proposed by Atlantic City Electric.  The plan will require a less than one percent increase in utility bills.  Vulnerable areas that experience long outages during storm events will be restored first. ##

SO LONG, PAYLESS: LOCAL STORES CLOSING IN NEW ROUND OF CUTS

Payless Shoes is closing both locations in Middle Township, and at the Cumberland Mall.  The chain announced another round of store closures Wednesday afternoon which include locations in Rio Grande and Cape May Court House, and at the Cumberland Mall.  17 Payless Shoe stores are closing throughout New Jersey. ##

ATLANTIC COUNTY NOW TREATING DISAPPEARANCE AS HOMICIDE

Atlantic County authorities are now treating the disappearance of a man who’s remains were found as a homicide.  Authorities say they are looking for the killer of Barry S. Brown of Egg Harbor Township who disappeared four years ago; Brown’s remains were found in January in a lot next to the Atlantic County Utilities Authority. [...]

SPORTS: MIDDLE GIRLS TO PLAY FOR STATE LACROSSE TITLE SATURDAY

The Middle Township girls’ lacrosse team will play for the State Group I championship on Saturday.  Middle defeated Mount St. Mary in a state semifinal game this week, and will next play Oak Knoll for the state title at Kean University.  Oak Knoll is the two time defending New Jersey Group I champions. ##
